Hi Reader,
Do you want to talk so clearly that people think you are a genius?
Do you know what outdated communication advice is hurting your career?
Would you like the secret to being memorable as a leader?
If so, these 10 minute videos will provide the answer.
As I am putting the finishing touches on my new book, I wanted to share these with you.
How to Talk So Clearly People Assume You’re a Genius
In this week’s solo episode, I’m sharing with you the 5 techniques to become the clearest person in the room.
These have allowed me to go from rambler to effective communicator. And I've since used it to help over 300 CEOs to get their message across with next level clarity.
Clarity is huge.Because it's not how good your idea is, it's how clear your idea is. Humans like what they understand and they dislike what they don’t understand.
That's why I'll also share with you the 3 clarity killers you must avoid and my top test that tells you immediately if your message is clear.
If you want to break through – in your team, your company, on social – you need to live in people’s heads. And to do that, you need to be quotable.
In a world drowning in noise, the people who win are the ones who are remembered.
In this week’s episode, I show youhow to become quotable and build a portfolio of quotes that people associate with you.
Creating a great quote has three steps: compression, contrast, and cadence.
Compression makes an idea short. Contrast makes it sharp. Like:
“If you are accountable, you don’t have to be accessible.” (Cal Newport)
“It’s not 10,000 hours. It’s 10,000 iterations.” (Naval Ravikant)
The brain loves contrast because it creates tension. If you can frame your idea as a choice, it becomes easier to remember.
Finally, a quote needs tosound right. Language that sticks has rhythm.
Short words and sentences, repetition, rhyme, melody, balance, rule of three – when it works, you feel it immediately.
Like one of my staples: “Be a spokesperson, not an answerperson.” I've been using it for 20 years, and clients regularly quote it back at me. That's how powerful a good quote is.
It sounds like timeless communication advice. In reality, it's outdated, and it’s hurting your career.
For 5000 years, speakers had to project their voices across huge crowds – in ancient amphitheaters, churches, or public squares. Speaking slowly helped people hear every word.
Now it leads to word starvation, because people can process information far faster than you can speak.
The real secret isn't speaking fast or slow. It's varying your pace.
Speed creates energy.Slowing down creates emphasis.
Great communicators have range. They deliberately change their rhythm to keep listeners engaged and highlight the moments that matter most.
Communication has changed dramatically over the last decade, yet much of the advice we still hear hasn't.
This is just one example. This week on Speak Like a CEO, I'll share nine more pieces of outdated communication advice – and what the best communicators do instead.
