5 Steps to Make Your Idea Irresistible
Nothing in business happens without an irresistible pitch.
No sale, no deal, no interview.
Last week I gave you a step-by-step blueprint for pitching yourself.
This week, I am going to show you how to pitch an idea.
This formula is the difference between "I’ll think about it“ and "I’m in!“
I’ve successfully used it with coaching clients who got the promotion, raised millions of dollars for their startup, and became keynote speakers.
When creating an irresistible pitch, the goal is always to build the story people will tell themselves about it.
Here’s how you tell a story that makes your idea irresistible, following Tamsen Webster’s Red Thread structure:
#1 - The Goal
What's your audience’s goal?
#2 - The Problem
What‘s the problem that prevents them from reaching their goal?
#3 - The Truth
What critical choice do they need to make?
#4 - The Change
Why is change necessary?
#5 - The Action
What needs to happen now?
Let me give you an example:
Goal: As a reader of this newsletter, you probably want to become a top presenter.
Problem: But you don’t know where to start, or lack the time and resources to make it happen, even though you know how valuable it would be for your career.
Truth: According to LinkedIn, communication is now the number 1 skill in business. You therefore have to decide: Do nothing and get left behind. Or learn the skill, like you have learnt many other skills before.
Change: That’s why, in order to achieve your goal of becoming a top presenter, you need to take action. What’s more, it will feel great once you present with confidence and impact on a daily basis.
Action: To help you achieve your goal, we’ve created The Speak Like a CEO Academy. It is designed to help busy leaders like you become top 1% communicators in the most time and cost-efficient way. If that’s your vibe, take a look here.
Whether you are pitching to your boss, an investor, or a customer, use this simple 5-step structure to make your idea irresistible.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION
The Big 5 For Life
"All the hard profits are tied up in the people things. They are definitely not soft.“
In his book on leadership, this week’s podcast guest John Strelecky introduces the concept of the Big 5 for life – the five most important things an individual wants to do, see, or experience in their lifetime to consider it a success.
He then shows how leaders can integrate everyone’s personal Big Five with the company's objectives. The upside: teams are more engaged, everyone is more fulfilled, and the attrition rate goes way down.
My favorite quote: "If leaders don’t help their people fulfill their Big 5, what are they doing? They are taking people’s lives in exchange for money.“
On that note...
Have an inspired weekend,
Oliver
